The Scolari family started in the grocery business in the central coast section of California in 1947. In 1982, the Scolari family purchased the Warehouse Markets chain in Reno, Nevada. In 1991 the trade name Scolari's Food & Drug Company was adopted to more accurately reflect the nature of the stores.

Scolari's Food & Drug is the largest privately owned grocery store chain in Northern Nevada with 13 stores. Scolari's also operates 4 stores in the central coast area of California. There are 9 superstores, which offer a variety of specialty departments such as Fresh Produce, Service Meat and Fish, Bakery/Deli, Full Service Floral, Video Rentals, expanded Health and Beauty Departments, Pharmacies and 4 smaller, more traditional grocery stores offering a full array of brand name groceries.

All Scolari's stores are clean and well stocked, and their Associates take great pride in providing excellent customer service, following Joey and Jerry Scolari's philosophy that "the customer always comes first". Joey and Jerry Scolari are also very "hands on" owners, and spend time in each store on a regular basis.
